Oh my-dear dear Wiebe. I had the pleasure of getting to know Wiebe when I worked for VON and CPHC in Athens. My office window looked out onto his house and it was a delight to watch him out working in his garden or strolling across the field knowing he was coming in for a visit-and it wouldn't be a short visit. Wiebe was such a special special man. He was a meals on wheels volunteer and then when he had his knee surgery, he ordered the meals for a short time. He always brought joy to my day with his huge smile. Thinking of you all as you mourn the loss of a wonderful man Kathy Richards-Solc (formerly VON and CPHC)

I met Wiebe and Ruth for the first time when I was visiting Canada in 1993 with my friend Hetty Veerman and my aunt Hinke Reidsma. We were very welcome in their home and had a great time. Ruth showed us her doll museum and Wiebe his garden, mills and carving. When we left Wiebe brought us to a place where we could pick the buss. When we left the car he said “ha jimme op it dropke knukt”. He meant “ha jimme op knopke drukt” what means “did you press the botton”. Hetty, aunt Hinke and I couldn’t stop to laugh. In 1995 I visited Wiebe and Ruth with my parents, Douwe and Saakje Koster, and my aunt Hinke. We stayed for dinner and ate salmon which Wiebe had caught by himself. Very tasteful. My father and Wiebe drank some liquor. I know that my parents appreciated this visit very much. Once Wiebe was in Holland with Shirley. Hetty and I went with him to the Menkema Borg in Uithuizen. In the evening I brought Wiebe back to his brother where he stayed and we lost the way a little bit. Later Wiebe told that his brother was a little bit jealous that Wiebe was on a trip with a young woman. Pieter, my husband and I, were in Canada last summer. I am very glad that we have visited Wiebe then. Rest in peace dear friend.

Dear Shirley, Gary and extended family: Please accept my sincerest condolences on the loss of your dad, grandad, great grandad. I met your dad during his time at Maple View Lodge and found a warm, dedicated family man. His family and friends were of utmost importance to him. He talked loving and with pride about his many children and their children. Even in his advanced age, his mind remained sharp, as was his humour. He spent his time with daily bible and book reading, talking and assisting others who needed direction but his continued ability and agility and attention to detail related to his woodworking amazed me the most. His legacy to his extended family will forever live within his carvings. I enjoyed our many conversations and will miss the glint in his eyes as he teased me with almost every chat. He is a sweet man and I am glad I had the opportunity to share the details of a life well lived. Rest in Peace Wiebe. I will miss you. Nancy MacIntyre
